Beautiful Stradbroke Island Australia

Australians are unique in many things from the rest of the world, but one thing that every visitor to their country will observe is their habit of looking for a getaway place in whichever city they are. Many head to the vast outback in the center of the country looking for solitude and some adventurous activities like trekking and hiking. But most of the residents of the Australian cities tend to find their getaways close to their home towns. For example Sydney has their gorgeous Bondi beach and if you have ever had the experience of going there on weekends then you know how much the Sydney siders love going there. In the same manner the residents of Brisbane have found their own little getaway place in the form of the gorgeous Stradbroke Island which they so affectionately call “Starddie”.

Located just 30 km from the city of Brisbane the Starddie Island is easily accessible by taking a 30 minutes ferry ride from the Cleveland harbor. If you have taken a cheap flights to Brisbane then the locals will tell you that no vacation in Brisbane is considered complete without paying a visit to the gorgeous starddie. The small island has every thing you can ask for in a travel destination, it has bone white sandy beaches along its southern shore line where you can relax or indulge in water sports and along it northern rocky shore line you can sight dolphins turtles and Manta Rays. If you arrive on the island in the months of June and July then there is a fair bit of chance that you will be able to witness the great whales passing along its shore line.

If the sole purpose of your journey is to get in some sun rays then you can stay on the southern shore as it has the island’s best beaches and you can find enough deserted places along the beach to get a full body tan. But most of the families head to the center of the island that has some beautiful fresh water streams and some stunning flowers and bushes that provide a great setting for a family picnic. Accommodation facilities of the island are limited but if you are interested in staying there for a couple of nights then you can head to the northern coastal town where there are a few hotels and resorts to stay in. There are also a number of campsites all across the island where you can camp out in the wild and enjoy the true flavor of the stradbroke island. If you are interested in snorkeling or scuba diving in the island’s waters then it is recommended that you bring you own kits with you as the resorts of the island do have these kits but in a limited numbers and if the tourists traffic is high then there is a fair bit of chance that you will not be able to take these equipments on rent.
